Why meatballs!?

It was years ago when I saw a news story about a meatball shop in New York and how their entire menu was meatballs and something in my brain clicked – I thought of so many recipes for unique meatballs and kept a running list on my phone. I would spend an entire Saturday making various meatballs and would invite friends over for meatball parties. They would try all the new recipes I came up with and give me feedback on which ones worked and which were their favorites.

I like to make meatballs because they are pretty quick and easy, they are familiar to many households and cultures, they remind me of those cozy comfort meals we all remember growing up, and they’re fun to eat.  

I would like to share all of my meatball creations with the world! I have found that there are so many reasons to make meatballs like potlucks or family gatherings – they are easy to eat with just a toothpick and you can make a bunch of different varieties depending on the type of gathering. Having variety also helps if you run into some picky eaters at events. They also make a great and quick weeknight meal.

I also hope to inspire you to make up some of your own meatballs (and hopefully share the recipes with me) that you can share with your loved ones. Having a creative outlet is important and what’s more fun than playing with your meat?

I hope that these recipes also inspire you to spend a free day making a bunch of meatballs to throw your own meatball party. I know if you use some of my recipes your guests will be fat and happy, and it’s always nice to have a reason to get together and eat, drink and laugh. 

We are located in Andover Minnesota and have lived in here for 7 years. I say we because it takes a village to try all of the meatballs I make.  I’ve lived all over – I was born in Michigan, moved to the Netherlands for a couple years when I was a kid, then moved to Maryland and then to Minnesota when I was 12. My husband was born and raised in Minnesota and we have a dog named Jasper and two cats, Gary and Karen. Gary showed up one night at our house in Minneapolis and Karen showed up at our current house in Andover pregnant. She had six babies and thankfully our friends gave them all loving homes.

Since I have lived in Minnesota most of my life my meatballs will reflect some regional favorites from Minnesota and the Midwest but I also like to try anything new! I’ve traveled a lot throughout my life and love trying anything new from any state or country. We also love to travel to Mexico and St. Thomas USVI so some of my meatballs will have some of my favorite flavors from those areas as well. I love to see how creative I can get with my meatballs so I try to pull inspiration, flavors and ingredients from everywhere I’ve lived and traveled.
