Basic Pork Meatballs
Pork meatballs are a great for so many recipes that call for pork as the main protein. There are so many classic pork combinations like pork and apples or pork and apricots that I decided to share my basic pork recipe for all of your pork ball needs.

Pork is really easy to work with – it’s actually probably one of my favorite ground meats to work with outside of beef. Oh, and Jimmy Dean’s sausage too – LOVE THAT STUFF. If anyone from Jimmy Dean’s is reading this, I would love for you to reach out and sponsor all my AMAZING Jimmy Dean’s Meatballs.
There are times when I’m making chicken meatballs or turkey meatballs and it’s a little sticky. Those meats are so lean that they have a different consistency when ground than both pork and beef. The nice thing about working with ground pork is you get the best of both worlds, it’s a milder meat and it’s also easy to work with. But not as great as Jimmy Dean’s sausage – seriously call me.
I mentioned above that there are so many great and classic pork combinations that what you can do with this basic pork meatball recipe is endless. The other nice thing is that there are so many cultures that use pork in their cooking that it gives me a lot of inspiration for different meatball recipes that step outside of just basic U.S.-inspired cuisine.
My basic recipes are really the easiest way to throw a meatball together and know it’s going to taste great. It’s also surprisingly easy to throw meatballs together. If I’m not making meatballs for dinner – which sadly I think my husband would eat meatballs every day of his life – I try to come up with other dinner ideas to mix it up. I’m always surprised that throwing a meatball together, especially one of these basic ones, and throwing it in a sauce usually takes me less time than other dinners I make.
This, just like all my basic recipes, can be changed up to your liking by simply changing the breadcrumbs that you use, adding fresh or dried herbs that you love, that special steak seasoning that you put on everything, or just adding some sauteed mushrooms to the meat mixture or some freshly chopped onions or garlic. The variations on this basic recipe are endless. It’s just important to remember that the ratio of meat to eggs to breadcrumbs is the key here. If you make a lot of changes to those fundamentals your meatball might come out tasting too much like the breadcrumbs or they might simply just not hold their shape as they cook.
